You are happiest in your home when everything works as it should. When you turn your heat on, it comes on. Additionally, when you want a nice, hot shower, you expect the water to warm to your liking, until it doesn’t. Boilers fail. Fortunately, most don’t fail without warning signs. If you’ve noticed any of the following symptoms, you may need a new boiler.

Your Heating Bills Are Increasing

Higher heating bills can be a sign that your home isn’t tight. However, it can also be a sign that your boiler may stop working soon.

Boilers that are old or have problems have to work harder to produce the same amount of heat they once did. In effect, dated units become inefficient and cost more to operate. If you’ve eliminated other possibilities and your boiler is old, consider replacing it.

You’ve Repaired It Many Times

Making frequent repairs to your boiler is another sign that your boiler isn’t working properly. In many cases, older units need more repairs due to wear and tear. The components of the system have reached their capacity, and there is nothing you can do to avoid replacing it, unless you want to continue to put a band-aid on the problem.

You’ve Noticed a Leak

If your boiler is in good working condition, it shouldn’t leak. There are a number of reasons water may leak from your boiler, including damage to your seals and pressure within the system. In both cases, you must have a professional examine your furnace to determine the cause. Of course, if the leak is a simple fix, then by all means, have a professional make the repair but monitor your unit for other signs that your boiler needs replacing.

Your Boiler Doesn’t Heat Consistently

Finally, if you’ve noticed that the temperature of your water changes frequently, then you may need a new boiler. Spikes and drops in temperature signal that your system isn’t performing as it should. Your water temperature should be consistent unless you adjust the temperature. Luckily, one of our team members can easily diagnose the cause and replace your system if necessary.
